Latino Americans: Celebration Photography Challenge!
Show your Latino pride by entering your photograph in our contest celebrating our Latino Americans: 500 Years of History program series. Photographs should illustrate the program’s themes of Latino history and culture, with suggested subjects of Latino dance, music, clothing, food, families, and festivals. Entrants will be judged primarily on the expression of cultural themes, with minimal consideration of photographic quality. Selected photographs will be exhibited at the Latino American program series Finale on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 3PM. Twenty challenge winners will have their photographs framed and exhibited in branch libraries, and receive a winner’s certificate. The top two entrants (one Youth, one Adult) will receive a framed copy of their photo with winning ribbon.
Photographs may be submitted online as digital images, or in print in person at any library information desk. All entrants must fill out and sign an entry form application, available online or at any information desk.
Deadline for submission is Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 5PM.
Celebration Photography Challenge! Contest Rules and Regulations
  • Participants must fill out and sign an entry form application.
  • Participants can enter in one of two categories: Youth (under 18) and Adult.
  • Participants may submit only one (1) original photo per person. 
  • The photo must be submitted by the original photographer, or by a family member if that person is no longer living. The photo must be wholly owned by that photographer.
  • No watermarks, copyright notices, or signatures may be included. All selected photos will be displayed with the photographer’s name.
  • Use of editing software is permitted.
  • Photos must be in JPEG format (resolution of 300dpi or more preferred) or 8” x 12” or less in size for printed photographs (JPEG preferred).
  • Color or black and white is acceptable.
  • Content of photos must be suitable for exhibition in a public area. Photos with inappropriate content will not be considered. Photos will be displayed at the Program Finale.
  • Participants are encouraged to only submit copies of original print photographs, as the library cannot guarantee the return of photographs.
  • It is the responsibility of the photographer to obtain written or verbal release for the public use of images of all persons in the photograph.
  • The Library will have the right to use submitted photographs for a period of one year.
  • Photos will be judged by a Contest Committee of Library staff and Latino community members. 
  • Winners will be notified by email/phone and announced via social media, a news release, and at the program Finale.
  • Photos must be submitted by 5PM on Thursday, October 1, 2015.
  • Entries that are not in compliance with these rules will be disqualified.
