West Regional Library is a two-story, 72,000-square-foot facility located on the Broward County West Regional Complex with the courthouse, the Emergency Operations Center and the Mass Transit Terminal. In addition to its large collection, the library offers a variety of remarkable programs and services for business, education, recreation and personal growth.
Teens are a special focus at this branch with the EMU College Club, Teen Advisory Board and programs geared to meet the scholastic and social needs of young adults. Special annual teen events include the International Festival, Murder Mystery Night and College Night. Two branch book clubs for this age bracket are the Middle School Book Club for young teens, and BookChat! for older teens.
Story times and programs are offered for young children. During the summer months, West Regional Library is a Breakspot, providing snacks and free lunch to children ages 18 and under. Summer specials and ongoing programs include Chess Club, Bedtime Stories and Crafts, Storytime Fun, Kids’ Corner, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities, Ceramics on Wheels, 1950’s Sock Hop and live performances for a full agenda of learning and fun.
The library has a large best seller collection and provides programs for book and film lovers including a monthly book club and a monthly foreign film. Other ongoing programs for adults are Happy Knitters and Crocheters, Coloring Club for Adults and Book-N-A Movie Matinee. Special summer program include Beading, Exercise Your Mind: Health Lectures, and Chair Yoga with Leigh Ann. Financial education seminars include How to Pay for Your Child’s College, Resume Writing and Mock Job Interviews. Aspiring authors can join the Writer’s Critique Group or take a specialty workshop like Publishing for LGBT Writers.
For those seeking English language literacy and citizenship, English Café, Crossroads Café and Citizenship Class are offered; El Club offers an opportunity to learn Spanish. The library also maintains a Citizenship Corner/Information desk with personal assistance.
Exceptional branch amenities include 100 public use computers, a multi-purpose room with a capacity of 250, three group study rooms, five tutoring rooms, a children’s story and activity room and a conference room with a capacity to seat 30 people.
West Regional Library serves a population of approximately 400,000 people seven days a week. The current West Regional Library building and its 150-car parking garage opened in October 2007, replacing original 27,865-square-foot building of 1983. There are 10 public schools and 18 private schools in the area supported by the library.
