Redesigned Rosetta Stone® Library Solution Now Available Free from Broward County Libraries
Broward County Libraries Division now offers Rosetta Stone® Library Solution, the popular language-learning software. Customers can use their library card to access it online or through a free mobile app, Rosetta Stone® Library Solution includes 30 languages with lessons to build reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

New EMU College Academy Helps Students and Parents with College Preparation
In March, Broward County Libraries launched EMU (Educate, Motivate, YOU College Academy, a free program designed to help high school seniors and their parents build a roadmap to college with support from trained counselors. Located at six Broward County Library locations, EMU College Academy features biweekly club meetings and counseling sessions that covers a variety of college-related topics.
Libraries Wins AVA Digital Award for Website
Broward County Libraries won a Gold Award in the 2016 AVA Digital Awards, an international competition for digital media, for our website, Broward.org/Library. AVA Digital Awards is an international competition that recognizes excellence by creative professionals responsible for the planning, concept, direction, design and production of digital communication.
New Career Online High School Helps Adult Learners Earn Their Diplomas
Broward County Libraries Division now offers Career Online High School, a program that awards scholarships for Broward residents looking to earn private high school diplomas and advance their careers. Each student is paired with an academic coach who offers ongoing guidance and encouragement, evaluated performance and connects the learner with educational resources to succeed and graduate.
Broward County Libraries Division Wins Two Hermes Creative Awards
Broward County Libraries Division received two 2016 Hermes Creative Awards for marketing and design – a Platinum Award for the Broward County Library Welcome Brochure and a Gold Award for the original logo created for the Creation Station, Broward County Library's community makerspace/gadget lab. The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media.
New Expanded Hours Begin
Our new service model, which lets us open libraries for longer hours and more days without increasing our budget, began in June. By the end of 2016, 20 libraries expanded either their service hours or service days.
Broward County Libraries Wins Two NACo Awards and Four NACIO Awards
Broward County Library received two 2016 NACo (National Association of Counties) Achievement Awards for our Broward County Libraries Mean Business public awareness campaign/event series and for the Creation Station’s Helping Hands Project and four 2016 NACIO (National Association of County Information Officers) Awards for marketing and promotional projects.

Creation Station Portals Open
Creation Station portals were opened at Jan Moran Collier City Learning Library and Northwest Regional Library. At Jan Moran Collier City Learning Library’s Creation Station portal, the emphasis is on music, with recording and sound production equipment available for community use. Northwest Regional’s portal is equipped for hands-on making, with large work tables and specialized tools and instruments.
Creation Station Business Opens
Creation Station Business, Broward County Library's new co-working space with expert assistance for creating and growing your business, opened on October 19th with a community celebration in the new space at Main Library. Open to the community’s entrepreneurs and small businesses, Creation Station Business offers free work and conference areas that can be reserved by the public, as well as common areas where business-related workshops, seminars and other events are held.
Broward.org/Library Receives a 2016 MarCom International Gold Award
Broward.org/Library received a 2016 MarCom International Gold Award for Marketing and Communication Professionals in the category of Government Website. MarCom Awards are a creative competition for any individual or company involved in the concept, writing and design of print, visual, audio and web materials and programs. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.
New Fast Lane Checkout Now Available
Fast Lane, a new, quick and easy way to check out items, was introduced at select library locations. Instead of waiting in line to pick up holds and get materials checked out, books, DVDs and CDs can be picked up at new customer-holds shelves and then taken to any of the new Fast Lane checkout stations. Fast Lane also allows library staff to be creatively deployed, making faster hold requests and expanded hours possible.
Grand Opening of the New Lauderhill Central Park Library
The new Lauderhill Central Park Library celebrated its official grand opening on December 16, 2016. The event included remarks from Broward County Commissioner Dale V. C. Holness and City of Lauderhill Mayor Richard J. Kaplan, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, a musical performance by the World Music Ensemble from Parkway Middle School, a presentation by the Lauderhill 6-12 National Middle School Cadet Corps. and an "Introduction to Virtual and Augmented Reality" event with the Creation Station staff. There were also children’s activities, refreshments and a free hip-hop dance workshop.
The 10,000-square-foot library features 25 public access computers, a tutoring room and a multi-purpose room. It is part of a new facility that includes the Broward County-operated library and a performing arts and cultural center, with a 1,200-seat theater, operated by the City of Lauderhill. The new Lauderhill Central Park Library is a project of the $139.9 million bond issue that was approved by Broward County voters in March 1999.
