Focus on Friends - Weston Friends of the Library
The Weston Friends of the Library Inc. was founded in 1993 and continues today to support library projects and public library advocacy.
Ongoing services they provide include book fairs, volunteer recognition events, library staff recognition events, and financial support for Broward County Library staff development.
The Friends participate in special events including Weston's Fall Harvest Festival, the Safety Expos and Broward County Pioneer Days.
The summer-long Florida Library Youth Program and several other public library programs for young people are supported by the Weston Friends.
In their efforts toward library advocacy, Weston Friends of the Library members attend the City of Weston Commission meetings and serve as liaisons to the City and other community groups such as the Circle of Friends, a library support group for the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center at Nova Southeastern University.
Special projects that the Weston Friends support are: iPad and iPhone classes, OASIS Computer classes, Photoshop classes, Linguistica 2000 language classes, art exhibits for children and adults, and the Weston Arts Council by selling tickets for the annual Foreign Film Festival.
Environmental, ‘green’ projects include the collecting and recycling of cellphones and shoes.
At the Broward County Friends of the Library Luncheons, the Weston Friends of the Library received awards for "Support of Youth Programming." and “Advocacy.”
