globe covered with flags of many different countriesBroward County Libraries celebrates art, music, theater, dance and literature from around the world during Cultural Diversity Month this January. Experience sounds and sights from other cultures at fun events for all ages. Also during Cultural Diversity Month, make it a point to visit your favorite Broward County Library location and pick up books, CDs and DVDs from artists and writers from around the world including great foreign films, global music and books, publications and more.

Learn a Foreign Language

A great way to celebrate Cultural Diversity Month is to learn a foreign language using online research tools from Broward County Library. Use the following free online resources and your Broward County Library card to access free foreign language courses such as:

  • BBC Languages: An online international language courses produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation with primary emphasis on instruction for the business and tourist traveler. Instructional materials include books, audio, video and web tutorials.
  • Byki: A powerful language learning system that uses flashcards to teach you a set of words or phrases. It is the fastest possible way to lock foreign words and phrases in your long term memory.
  • Language Learning Library: A language learning portal providing instruction in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
