Celebrating Cultural Diversity Month with Broward County Libraries
Broward County Libraries Division celebrates art, music, theater, dance and literature from around the world during Cultural Diversity Month this January. See, listen and experience sounds and sights from other cultures at fun events for all ages. Also during Cultural Diversity Month, make it a point to visit your favorite Broward County Library location and pick up books, CDs and DVDs from artists and writers from around the world including great foreign films, global music and books, and more.
January 4 - Broward's Got Talent - Talented Youth from Different Cultures Perform, 2 to 5 p.m., Southwest Regional Library
January 8 - Sharkey’s Storytime: One World, Many Stories! Ages 3-5 with caregiver, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Nova Southeastern University Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center

Take Free Foreign Language Classes
at Broward County Libraries – Online or
Free classes in Spanish language are offered at select libraries to those who would like to learn another language. Currently, the following Broward County Library locations provide Spanish-language instruction; please call library directly for further details:
Online Classes: Use your Broward County Library Card to access free online language-learning courses including Transparent Language Online, formerly Byki, a powerful language learning system that uses flashcards to teach you a set of words or phrases. It is the fastest possible way to lock foreign words and phrases in your long term memory.
Language learners can also check out the Brainfuse Language Lab for live, one-on-one online tutoring that puts you directly in touch with free help.
Visit a Foreign Country or Culture via Free Streaming, International Films from Broward County Libraries
Broward County Libraries recently launched IndieFlix, a free service that lets library customers stream and watch award-winning independent films, television shows, shorts and documentaries from around the world – at no cost. Access streaming film-festival titles including the best of Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca as well as films from more than 50 countries.
Watch titles on Xbox, PC, Mac, Smartphone, Tablet and even Roku. IndieFlix requires Internet Explorer 10 or above, Chrome, Firefox or Safari Internet browser for optimal results! Sort by language, genre, intended audience or film length with easy-to-use filters.
Getting Started with IndieFlix
- Visit the RBGateway page on the Library's website.
- Select from Movies or Digital Magazines.
- Enter your Broward County Library card number.
- Make sure your computer has Internet Explorer 10 or above, Chrome, Firefox or Safari International Browser (needed to access IndieFlix).
- Select title(s) for viewing. Sort and filter titles and genres as desired.
