Save These Dates...
Two Branch Libraries to Temporarily Close for Maintenance and Renovation
Pembroke Pines/Walter C. Young Resource Center will be temporarily closed to
the public from Monday, August 7th through Friday, August 11th for annual
maintenance. The library will re-open to the public on Saturday, August 12th at
Sunrise Dan Pearl Branch Library will close to the public on August 12,
2017, at 6PM for renovations and repairs. Updates to the building include a new
computer lab; new tile, carpet and lighting in the lobby; and installation of
new public art. It is anticipated that the library will remain closed for
approximately six to eight weeks.
Stirling Road Branch Library Awarded a Prestigious "NASA@ My Library" Grant
Stirling Road Branch Library in Hollywood will offer a series of free
science programs for Broward County residents as part of NASA@ My Library, an
initiative to engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong
learning with the excitement of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space
Administration) exploration and discovery.
The Stirling Road Branch is one of 75 public libraries chosen to be part of
NASA@ My Library, led by the National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL) at
the Space Science Institute (SSI) in partnership with the American Library
Association (ALA), Public Programs Office, the Pacific Science Center,
Cornerstones of Science and the Education Development Center.
As part of the grant, the library will receive materials, training and financial
support to host programs and activities for various age groups. The goal of
NASA@ My Library is to create compelling learning experiences for the community
and share the story, science and adventure of NASA's scientific explorations of
planet Earth, our solar system and the universe beyond. The grant period is from
May 2017 through October 2018.
Events held as part of NASA@ My Library will include programs for all ages,
including hands-on activities and science-related performances and
presentations. All events are free and open to the public.
