Perry Middle School and her teacher Ms. Smith.  On the far left is Freddy the Alligator, the mascot of event partner, the South Florida Water Management District.

Students were a big part of helping more than 3,600 Broward County residents, learn how to “Preserve Protect Conserve” at this year’s 11th Water Matters Day held on Saturday, March 9th at Tree Tops Park in Davie.  The annual event, an important part of the partnership between the School Board and Broward County, is the County’s largest environmental educational event with numerous opportunities for student participation, including volunteering, hosting a booth, and entering the Water Matters Day literary contest.

At the event, attendees received tips on gardening for wildlife, water conservation and management, and learned about how to create “Florida friendly”, water saving landscapes. There was entertainment, lots of giveaways, and great barbeque. Over 3,000 trees and plants were distributed to Broward County residents.

Thank you, students and teachers!
