The purpose of the newsletter is to keep all stakeholders informed of the construction progress and key dates. New Courthouse Construction Project Awarded
The Broward County Commission awarded the construction contract for the new courthouse on Tuesday, June 12. The construction contract was awarded to James A. Cummings, Inc.
Regular Construction Update Meetings Scheduled
Regular communication/update meetings to ensure all stakeholders have relevant information on the progress of the new courthouse are planned. The objective of these meetings is to communicate construction progress and anticipated timelines. Key personnel will attend the meetings to answer questions and present information on activities associated with the project. The first meeting is scheduled for June 28, 2012.
Plans for Groundbreaking Ceremony Underway
Planning is underway to determine an appropriate date for the groundbreaking of the new courthouse and demolition of the existing courthouse parking garage.
Temporary Parking Challenges
Opportunities are being investigated to address the temporary parking challenges during the construction of the 1,000 car garage and courthouse. Data is currently being reviewed and discussions with stakeholders are planned. Various alternatives are being explored to meet financial goals and parking needs.
Demolition of Courthouse Facility Maintenance Shop
Earlier this year, demolition began on the facility maintenance shop at the courthouse. Since the rainy season has started, the demolition is being completed and repairs will be made to the roof over the Florida Power and Light electrical vault. Affected stakeholders will be updated on this project.
Final Design Plans Received
The Spillis Candela & Partners/Heery/Cartaya Joint Venture (the project’s design consultant) submitted the final set of revised plans on May 25, 2012. The submitted plans are under review and will submit comments on the redesign of the courthouse by June 29, 2012 on the mechanical systems and related electrical, fire protection and architectural work.
