Broward County Welcomes Copa Airlines

 
Copa A retired Boeing 727-200F aircraft from FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), made its final journey on April 2nd onto the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief, along with fellow County Commissioners and community leaders, gathered to celebrate this generous donation to the Broward County Aviation Department. A tour of the aircraft followed its arrival. Broward County Commissioner Lois Wexler was among those who welcomed Copa Airlines to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport this afternoon. She was joined by Copa’s Senior VP, Commercial and Planning Joseph Mohan, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau Vice President Carlos Molinet and Broward Aviation Director Kent George. Broward County and Participating Cities Collect 100 Tons of Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics through Local Events

 
Ribbon cutting During the first six months of this year, Broward County and 14 contracted cities hosted nine household hazardous waste and electronics recycling drop-off events. Thousands of residents dropped off more than 200,000 pounds of waste. Nearly 125,000 pounds of it was household hazardous waste, and more than 83,000 pounds was electronic waste such as computers, monitors, televisions and rechargeable batteries. More...

FEC Begins Laying Tracks for New Port Everglades Rail Yard

 
Port Rail Yard Rail tracks and crane pads are being installed for the new Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which is slated to open this summer. The $73 million, 43-acre near-dock rail facility in the Port's Southport containerized cargo area will be used to more efficiently transfer domestic and international shipping containers between ship and rail, and will replace FEC's existing 12-acre intermodal yard which is currently located several miles from Port Everglades on Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. More...
