Port Everglades 20-Year Master/Vision Plan Wins National Job Creation Award

Mary Shaffer Port Everglades' 20-Year Master/Vision Plan won the 2014 Projects of the Year Award for Job Creation during the 6th Annual North American Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. The national awards were selected from an initial list of 400 projects valued at $370 billion. Broward County Transit receives three awards in the Florida Public Transportation Association

Broward County Transit (BCT) has received three awards in the Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) annual marketing awards competition. The competition is held each year to honor the finest examples of transit marketing with participants representing various agencies statewide. BCT won several awards in the Marketing Competition:
  • 2014 BEST IN CLASS 1 for Special Events & Campaigns: Sustaining Campaigns for the "Let's Talk Transit" community outreach program.
  • The BEST IN CLASS 1 for Online Communications/Social Media for BCT's Facebook posts and special features of "Transit Tuesday" and "Flashback Friday."
  • 2nd Place Award of Merit for Internal/Employee Communications - Class 1 for Headways, BCT's bi-monthly employee newsletter available in print and digital formats.

Broward is a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador

WRN logo The County’s Emergency Management Division has been named one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassadors. The initiative is an effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, Broward County’s Division of Emergency Management is committed to working with NOAA, the National Weather Service (NWS) and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather. “Our participation as an Ambassador also supports our ongoing NWS designation as a Storm Ready Community,” said Miguel Ascarrunz, Interim Director of Broward’s Emergency Management Division.
