The Environmental Ownership Committee of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Zeta Rho Omega Chapter, has adopted Reverend Samuel Delevoe Park for the next two years. Their goal is to beautify the park and ensure that the children who play there have a safe, clean place to play. The group is conducting site cleanups, in addition to planting new trees and greenery throughout the site. Their venture, a partnership with the Mount Olive Girl Scout Troop, is a way to engage youths in giving back to their community. A dedication was held on August 1, 2015, to announce the adoption project, and a dahoon holly, a native tree, was planted to commemorate the event. On Saturday, December 5, 2015, 25 sorority sisters and Girl Scouts joined forces to pick up trash and clear palm fronds from areas throughout the park. The group is scheduled to return for another cleanup in January 2016.
