Miami Marlins Community Outreach Program volunteers came to Miramar Pineland on September 10, 2015, to help install new native landscaping. Among the plants used were beautyberry, Muhly grass, and saw palmetto. The Marlins Ayudan team that assisted with the planting project was the Blue Crew, captained by Miami Marlins Senior Vice-President of Corporate Partnerships Brendan Cunningham.
We would also like to thank three Master Gardeners - Mariana Yi, Linda Shneyer, and Lee Layman - for generously sharing their time working alongside the Marlins group. Terri Ward of Parks and Recreation led the effort and spoke with the group on proper planting techniques, and shared information about each plant and its origins.
Sincere thanks also goes to Amanda Guevara, and intern serving in Community Outreach for the Marlins, who made the initial contact with Parks and coordinated project details with park staff.
This enterprising group is always welcome to return to assist with future projects to help keep our parks beautiful for the communities they serve.
