FEMA began the process of updating Broward County’s flood maps in 2006. Broward County and Broward's 31 municipal governments have already received the first version of the new preliminary flood maps.
The general public should look up their address and compare their current and proposed new flood zone map.

A 90-day appeal period for the new maps, started March 28 and will end June 26, 2012. During the appeal period, local governments and owners or lessees of property may submit information to FEMA on whether the proposed new flood elevations are scientifically or technically correct. Learn more on how you can file an appeal.
After the 90 day appeal period expires, FEMA will resolve any appeals and then issue a Letter of Final Determination. Broward County and the municipal governments will have six months from the date of the Letter of Final Determination to adopt the revised flood maps.
Upon adoption, the maps will become effective and be used for flood insurance purchase and rating purposes. Developers and builders will be required to use the finished floor elevations for new construction and substantial improvements to existing construction. |
