Some complaints about animals are handled by the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division, through the Broward County Call Center.
Animal cruelty is a serious offense and against the law.
If you live in one of the following cities, report animal cruelty to that city’s Animal Control department for investigation:
- Coral Springs: 954-346-4422
- Hollywood: 954-921-3061
- Margate: 954-764-4357
- Pompano Beach: 954-786-4027
All others, report to Broward County. Between the hours of 8:30AM and 5PM Monday through Friday, call the Broward County Call Center at 311 or 954-831-4000. If after 5PM, on weekends or holidays, call the Broward Sheriff’s Office at 954-765-4321 and press Option 5.
Animals At Large
Broward County’s leash law states all dogs must be on a leash when off their owner’s property. There is no leash law for cats, however a property owner does have the right to humanely trap or catch any nuisance cats on their property. To report a dog owner in violation or to file a complaint about an animal at large, call the Broward County Call Center at 311 or 954-831-4000 between the hours of 8:30AM and 5PM, Monday through Friday. Be prepared to provide the following information:
- Description of the dog
- When the dog runs loose
- Owner’s name, if you know it
- Owner’s address
- When the owner might be home
An Animal Care Specialist will visit the neighborhood at a time the dog has been reported to usually be at large.
