Goal Statement
To provide strategic technical support for all seaport development, to maintain existing facilities and manage design, engineering and construction of new facilities for Port Everglades clients and Broward County staff while protecting the environment within the Port jurisdictional area.

Program Description

The Seaport Engineering and Construction Division consists of a staff of design and construction professionals, who direct the design and construction process for new and renovated Port facilities and infrastructure. The Division supports the Port Everglades Department with projects that range from conceptual planning to construction completion, delivery, and turnover.

Projects at Port Everglades begin with tenant or market driven needs that develop from the Port Administration and Operations Divisions, and evolve into conceptual plans and designs. Once projects are funded, the plans are typically turned over to the Port’s consultants who develop construction documents for large scale projects and in house staff for small scale projects. When construction documents are ready, the project managers continue with the procurement of contractors and ultimate construction of the project. The end goal is to deliver to the Port’s users a project that serves their needs in the time frames established for completion.

This section is responsible for tenant audits and tenant compliance, environmental studies, endangered species protection, water quality monitoring, environmental permitting for Port projects, developing environmental master planning and studies, review of pending legislation as it relates to Ports on the local, state and federal level, coordination with federal and state agencies on dredging issues and is project manager for the Port’s Environmental Management Systems program.
