For your safety, the Central Trash Transfer Station has installed a Lightning Warning System. The device is already in use at 19 Broward County parks and nature centers, and provides advance notice of approaching lightning storms.
How does it work?
One 15-second blast of the horn indicates that you have eight to 15 minutes to take shelter, depending on how fast the storm is approaching. A yellow strobe light will flash continuously as long as severe weather conditions persist. Since lightning may be approaching, it is imperative that you seek safe shelter. Shelter may be found inside a building or inside a car. Broward County programs and services will be suspended until the all-clear alert sounds. You may resume activities after three five-second blasts of the horn and the strobe light no longer flashes.

You may be warned of lightning by our
electronic lightning prediction system
(one 15-second blast of the horn and a flashing strobe light) indicating that
IT IS TIME TO SUSPEND ALL ACTIVITIES.
You should seek safe shelter immediately.
SEEK SAFETY in large buildings, autos, trucks and low-lying areas.
AVOID open areas, water, metal fences, overhead wires, tall trees, power lines and high ground.
IF YOU REMAIN OUTDOORS AFTER THE WARNING IS ISSUED, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
You may resume activities after three 5-second blasts of the horn have sounded and the strobe light stops flashing.
