Rules and Guidelines

Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services (SWRS) is seeking creative students to help spread the word about recycling in their school.  To do this, SWRS is sponsoring a video contest for Broward County public school students in grades 6 - 12. 

The purpose of the contest is to educate and inspire public school students to actively recycle at school by changing simple behaviors and taking advantage of school recycling opportunities.  Two winning videos will be chosen, one from a high school and one from a middle school, based on the number of votes each video receives. Each winning video will receive a $500 gift card to be shared among the video entrants (not redeemable for cash).

How To Enter

1. Create a www.SchoolTube.com account for your school (most schools already have one). You may need help from an administrator or teacher to do this if your school doesn’t have an account already.
2. Create a one-minute-long video for the purpose of promoting “All-In-One” recycling at your school. Visit us at “All-In-One” to learn more.
3. Create a text script of the video. If your video wins, we will need to add this to your video for those who may have hearing impairments.
4. Have a teacher at your school fill out and sign the Contest Entry Form.
5. Create a personal School Tube account (you will be able to do this once your school has an account) and upload your video onto www.SchoolTube.com on your school’s channel.
1. When uploading your video, under “Video Privacy Settings,” select “Public.”
2. You must select a moderator (a pre-selected person with authority at your school) to approve your video before it is available for the public (including SWRS) to view.
3. When uploading your video, you will see a list of available moderators on the SchoolTube.com drop-down list for your school.
6. By Friday, March 23, 2012, have a teacher e-mail the following items to schoolsrecycle@broward.org:
1. A link to your video on www.SchoolTube.com 
2. A text script of the video
3. A signed Model Authorization Form from each entrant and person who appears in the video
4. A Contest Entry Form signed by a school teacher
5. List of student participants (to be used to distribute prize if video wins)

How to Win

• Once we receive the video by e-mail, we’ll send a confirmation e-mail to the teacher who submitted the video.
• On April 2, 2012, we will upload all eligible videos to our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/BrowardCountyRecycling.
• Videos will be voted on by people “liking” the video. Each “like” will be the equivalent of one vote.  
• We will promote the contest as much as we can; however, students and faculty should promote the contest and voting as much as they can if they want to win.
• The deadline to vote is Friday, April 20, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.  At 4:01 p.m., “liking” will be disabled.
• The winning videos (one from a middle school and one from a high school) will be the videos with the most “likes.”
• Winners will be notified via an e-mail sent to the teacher who submitted the video and will also be announced on Facebook.
• In the event of a tie, voting will be extended for the tied videos only until Monday, April 23. The prize for the winning videos will be a $500 gift card, one each for the high school and middle school winning video.
• Along with the Contest Entry Form and Model Authorization Forms, we should also receive a list of entrants for each video. The $500 gift card will be divided among the entrants.
• For example, if there were seven (7) students involved in creating and/or appearing in the winning video, the teacher responsible for distributing the prize, as indicated on the Contest Entry Form, will receive (7) $71.43 gift cards to distribute to each entrant.
• The winning videos will be featured on our Facebook page and website.
• The winning videos will be submitted to the media for airing.
• There is no guarantee the videos will air, but it is possible.

Contest Rules

• The students who are involved in creating or starring in the video, hereinafter referred to as “Entrants,” must be currently registered Broward County public high school or middle school students for the entire duration of the contest (January 2, 2012 to April 23, 2012).  
• Any Broward County public school student, middle school or high school, who is involved in creating the video (appearing in or producing it) in any way must be listed as an entrant.
• A middle school student cannot be listed as an entrant for the high schools’ video contest, and a high school student cannot be listed as an entrant in the middle schools’ video contest.
• People who are not considered a Broward County public middle school or high school student may appear in the video (with a model release form), but cannot be listed as an entrant and be eligible for a portion of the winning video gift card.
• This contest is open to Broward County public schools only. Video submissions from private and charter schools will not be considered.
• Videos must not contain violence, profanity, sexuality, or direct attacks on any individuals, organizations, or groups of people.
• SWRS will disqualify any entries it deems to contain offensive material.
• SWRS and its designees reserve the right not to accept entries considered inappropriate for the contest.
• The video must be the student(s) original creation. No copyrighted music, video, or images may be used in the video.
• This means only original music is allowed and any logos or brand names on clothing or products used in the video must not be shown/worn/used, or must be blurred out.
• Videos containing copyrighted material (music, images, etc.) will be disqualified.
• Videos must not infringe on any third party rights.
• All submissions must be accompanied by a signed Contest Entry Form or will not be considered.
• All submissions must be accompanied by a signed Model Authorization Form, provided by SWRS, for each entrant and person who appears in the video.
• Videos that do not have a signed Model Authorization Form for every entrant will not be considered.
• All submissions must be accompanied by a Student Entry List, naming every person who was involved in the creation/production of the video.
• The Student Entry List will be used to determine the number and denomination of gift cards if the video submitted wins.
• Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Contest will be ineligible for prizes and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
• SWRS and its designees assume no responsibility for lost or late entries or for incomplete computer transmissions or technical failures.
• SWRS reserves the right (a) to suspend or cancel the Contest at its sole discretion, and (b) to modify the rules of the Contest in any way or at any time.
• This Contest is not open to anyone employed by SWRS and its designees or members of their immediate families before, on, or after the Contest begins.
• The video must be no longer than one (1) minute in total length. Media outlets are most likely to run 30-second spots. Entries exceeding one (1) minute in length will not be accepted.
• Entrants may not submit multiple entries.
• There is no cost or purchase required to enter this Contest.
