Rate Changes for Residential Customers With 1 Inch Meter

At a public hearing held on March 8, 2011, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners approved an amendment to the schedule of rates for water and sewer retail users.

The previous rate resolution charged single family residential customers with a 1” meter the same monthly minimum charge as commercial customers with a 1” meter. A review of our rate structure showed the wastewater flow for single family residential customers with a 1” meter to be significantly less than commercial customers with a 1” meter. Therefore, the monthly minimum charge has been reduced for wastewater single family residential customer. The monthly minimum charges for a 1” meter for a single family resident has also being modified to charge homeowners with a 1” meter that use an average 20,000 gallons or less of water per month (reviewed on an annual basis) the same monthly minimum charge as a 5/8” meter customer.

The previous and approved rate structures for the 1” meter customers are as follows:

Your April bill will be revised to reflect these changes which are retroactive to October 1, 2010. Retroactive charges are only applicable for 1” customers that exceed an annual average of 20,000 gallons per month and will be spread out over a three month period. The retroactive charge for the 1” customers that exceed an annual average of 20,000 gallons per month would be $126.06 and this would appear as a charge of $42.02 on your April, June and July bills and is in addition to normal monthly water and sewer charges.
