Mayor Kristin JacobsBroward County Mayor Kristin Jacobs has named 2013 the “Year of the Neighbor,” which will be marked with efforts to pull local and regional governments together, to join forces and seek solutions to address issues they have in common. “Together with our neighbors, we will make good things happen for Broward County,” said Mayor Jacobs. “Together we are better, resilient and strong.”

WAVE Streetcar

WAVE Streetcar Destined for Broward County
The public commute in and around Fort Lauderdale will soon include a modern electric streetcar that will operate in part via overhead electrical wires in some areas and by battery power in others. The so-called “The Wave” modern streetcar has been given unanimous approval by the Broward County Commission, setting in motion financial agreements and partnerships that will make electric streetcar transportation a reality in the downtown Fort Lauderdale area by 2016. The County’s portion, which funds operating and maintenance costs, is $2.5 million annually beginning in 2016. More…

Commission Approves “Complete Streets”
The “Complete Streets” program approved by Broward Commissioners will create streets that are safer for pedestrians and cyclists and more efficient in terms of transportation. The Complete Streets program provides specific community design standards when planning and building roads throughout the County. The overall mission is to plan for streets that are accessible to people and all modes of transportation with a diversity of uses such as street festivals, farmers markets and public gathering places.
