Introduction:
The Conservation and Climate Change Challenge (C3 Challenge) is an educational competition intended to engage students, teachers, school administrators, staff, and parents in practical strategies to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions school-wide and at home. Through improved energy efficiency, reduced consumption increased recycling and changes in transportation behaviors, participants will learn how simple actions, taken together, can create a climate of change. All educational activities are aligned with the Sunshine State Standards and Grade Level Expectations. The school with the most teachers participating WINS!!!

• 2010 Green Footprint Calendars
• Climate Change Collection (books, documentaries, movies) for libraries
• Recognition from Board of County Commissioners at a commission meeting
Goals of the Conservation and Climate Change Challenge:
• Educate young people about climate change and everyday actions they can take to reduce their impact locally and globally
• Reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gas emissions in and around schools
• Encourage student leadership and empowerment
• Foster a community of teachers/students working together to engage their parents, colleagues, and the community to reduce their carbon footprint
• Foster a new generation of environmental advocates.
Step 1
• Take the Challenge…School Registration
• A teacher or school administrator (Climate Ambassador) registers their school by e-mailing airoutreach@broward.org.
Step 2
• Build Your C3 Team
• The school’s Climate Ambassador recruits other teachers and students to become Climate LEEDers.
Step 3
• Spread the Word…Take Action
• Teachers and students can use the Conservation and Climate Change Challenge Toolkit and other educational resources to learn more about how to reduce their carbon footprint at school and home.
Step 4
• Teacher Pledge Drive…the school with the most teachers participating WINS!
• The Teachers Climate LEEDers submit the online Teacher Pledge by December 18, 2009, indicating their commitment to educate students and the community about actions to reduce their carbon footprint.
