I-595 Ramp to Term​inal Drive and Return to Terminal Loop Lane Closures

Effective: Friday, July 20, 2018         FLL 2018-20

Project Location: I-595 Ramp to Terminal Drive and Return to Terminal Loop
Work Schedule:  Sunday, July 22, 2018 through Thursday, July 26, 2018 - 9PM to 5AM  
Work Performed:  Southbound U.S. 1 and eastbound Interstate 595 will encounter slower traffic and lane restrictions where their exit ramps for airport traffic merge. Two lanes will be closed on the circular ramp into the airport at any time due to the maintenance work that includes resurfacing the roadway. The affected lanes will vary throughout the week. A Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be in place.
• Expect delays entering the Airport
• Two lanes will be blocked each night

Employ​ee Lot Separation

In an effort to improve service, we are making additional changes to the employee parking lot(s) to reduce wait times and provide for better sequencing of the shuttles.
• Effective April 16, 2018 at midnight, each parking lot will be dedicated to an Employee Terminal Stop.
• Lot 1 shuttles will provide service only to Employee Terminal Stop 1, serving the Rental Car Center and Terminals 1 and 2.
• Lot 2 shuttles will only provide service to Employee Terminal Stop 2, serving Terminals 3 and 4.
• There will be no change to ADA services. 
When the shuttle arrives curbside at the Terminal Employee Stop, all guests onboard the shuttle will exit allowing a larger number of guests waiting at the stop the ability to board the first shuttle that arrives.  Every shuttle picking-up at the Terminal Employee Stop will utilize its full capacity transporting more guests in queue.
Over the next few months, we will continue to explore further enhancements to improve your overall experience. We will notify you in advance of these changes.

Employee Lot ​Station Closures

As a result of your comments, we are making changes to the employee lot shuttle service. The first of these changes will be effective Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at midnight which involves closing four (4) employee station stops - Lot 1: D, F & K and Lot 2: Q. By closing these stops, it will decrease the commute time and the number of out of service shuttles in the lot(s). However, these stops will remain open to assist our ADA team members for pick-up/drop-off. Over the next 30 days we will be implementing additional changes that will enhance your experience. Employee Parki​ng Relocated 

The Employee Parking has relocated from the Cypress Garage to the new Employee Parking Lot west of the airport on SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale. The Cypress Garage Parking is closed to employees parking.

  • Buses run 24 hours a day seven days a week with up to a ten minute wait.
  • Bus ride takes about 20 minutes. It could potentially take more time if there is heavy traffic.
  • The Employee Parking Lot is divided into Lots 1 and 2.
  • The buses are identified as Lot 1 or Lot 2 and will only go to one lot.
  • Park in either Lot 1 or Lot 2.
  • Board a bus from one of the 14 bus stations in the two lots. 
  • There are two bus stops on the upper level roadway. One stop is located between Terminals 1 and 2. The second stop is located between Terminals 3 and 4. The stops will be clearly identified. 


ADA (U​pdated July 21, 2017) 

  • After you park your car, call 954-359-3636 and provide the bus stop number for an ADA accessible minivan. There will also be parking personnel to assist located curbside in both the parking lot and at the terminal bus stops.   
  • For safety reasons, all ADA pick-up and drop-off locations will be on the upper level curbside, RCC Busway or the shelters in the Employee Parking lots. 
  • The shuttle buses are not ADA compatible. To meet ADA requirements, there are ADA minivans available.

  • A security fence surrounds the entire Employee Parking Lot. 
  • The area is well lit. 
  • A dedicated security officer, a shuttle supervisor, and parking staff patrol the lot. 
  • Each bus has interior and exterior cameras.
  • The lot will be under surveillance by CCTV cameras. 

Real Time Inform​ation

The free FLL App provides shuttle bus arrival times and locations of the buses. The App only tracks the new smaller white shuttle buses not the larger shuttle buses in our current fleet. Since the FLL app cannot track the larger shuttle buses, the wait times will not be totally accurate in some instances. As more shuttle bus drivers complete their training, we will use more of the new white shuttles buses and less of the larger buses so the App will be more accurate.

From I-595 East or West bound, Connect to I-95 South and Exit at Griffin Road: From I-95 South or North bound to the Airport, Exit at Griffin Road (northbound and southbound exit # 23)
  • Turn West on Griffin Road/SW 48th Street/SR-818.
  • Turn right on Ravenswood Road.
  • Turn left at SW 42nd Street.
  • FLL Employee Parking Lot will be on the right.
From US-1 North or South to the Airport
  • Turn West on Griffin Road/SW 48th Street/SR-818.
  • After I-95 overpass, turn right on Ravenswood Road.
  • Turn left at SW 42nd Street.
  • FLL Employee Parking Lot will be on the right. 
East bound on Griffin Road
  • Turn left on SW 30th Avenue.
  • Turn right on SW 42nd Street.
  • FLL Employee Parking Lot will be on the left.
East or West bound on State Road 84
  • Turn south on SW 30th Avenue.
  • Turn left on SW 42nd Street.
  • FLL Employee Parking Lot will be on the left.  


  • Airport employee parking was relocated from an off-site lot to the Cypress Garage as a temporary measure in 2007. This was during the peak of a national recession because it was underutilized by passengers at this time but had room for airport employees. Today, that is not the case.
  • Passenger growth has created the demand for parking in the existing garages. The number of passengers has increased by over 6.5 million from 22.7 million in 2007 to 29.2 million in 2016.
  • To accommodate the increase in passengers, more airport employees are needed. There is now a shortage of parking spaces in the Cypress Garage. At peak times, from 14 – 17 hours per day, nearly 4,000 employees attempt to park in 3,143 spaces.
