Can you bring your tennis racquets or golf clubs on board the airplane? How about scissors or nail files? Will your pacemaker set off security alerts?
Find out the answer to these questions and many others with the helpful tips and security information provided courtesy of the Transportation Safety Administration. Visit www.tsa.gov.
At this time, the Registered Traveler Program is not available at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
The Broward County Aviation Department has been following the development and recent implementation of this program.
Logistically, it would be difficult if not impossible to offer the service because of the FLL's physical constraints. FLL has six security checkpoints with no space for additional checkpoints.
FLL managers are constantly working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on ways to enhance passenger travel at our airport. If we were to dedicate a separate lane only to those Registered Travelers, it would negatively impact FLL's ability to process the vast majority of passengers who were not registered and cleared in advance. We would have to close one of the primary lanes for registered travelers.
We have discussed the Registered Traveler Program with other airports. Those airports implementing the program have enough space to add security checkpoints without adversely effecting travelers not in the program.
For more information about the Registered Travel Program, visit the TSA web site at http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/rt/index.shtm.
