RIDE AND BREATHE EASIET AT FLL
All 57 of FLL's airport shuttles and trams are now environmentally friendly. The fleet runs on B-20 bio-diesel fuel which is a mixture of 80% petroleum and 20% bio-diesel fuel.
Bio-diesel fuel offers significant reductions in exhaust emissions and has a very positive effect on air quality.
Every gallon of bio-diesel fuel used saves a gallon of fossil fuel. It is estimated that the use of bio-diesel fuel in the airport's vehicles will eliminate the need to burn 150,000 gallons of fossil fuel annually

FLL HONORED 7th TIME IN FAA SAFETY INSPECTION
For the 7th year in a row, FLL achieved a “zero discrepancy” on its annual FAA Certification/Safety Inspection of the airport.
The FAA inspection reviews the airport's compliance with the FAA's airfield safety requirements and is one of the most comprehensive evaluations that an airport will face from the FAA. It is given by the FAA, Southern Region, takes 3 days to complete, and covers all aspects of airport safety.
“This is an outstanding achievement by our staff of dedicated professionals,” states Tom Jargiello, Broward County Aviation Director. “Receiving a perfect score for a seventh time is particularly noteworthy.”

FIRST QUARTER 2004 - BUSIEST QUARTER EVER AT FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Traffic for the 1st quarter of 2004 broke all the records at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). During the first three months of the year, 5,520,702 passengers traveled through the airport, an increase of 16.4% over the same period in 2003. That's the largest percentage increase on record, surpassing the previous record set in 2001 by more than 2 percentage points.
March was exceptionally busy and was the first month in the history of the airport to exceed the 2 million passenger benchmark. It was also the 6th consecutive month of double-digit passenger growth.
Domestic travel increased 16.2% for the 1st Quarter and continued to be fueled by major and low-fare carriers. For the major's, United Airlines was up 45.9%, American increased 25.4%, US Airways 21.3%, and Continental 12.2%. On the low fare side, jetBlue grew 38.2%, Frontier increased 112.8%, Spirit was up 27.1%, and Southwest increased 8.3%.
These low-fare and major carriers combined to add 602,159 new passengers!
International traffic continues to grow and was up 18.8% over the same period last year. This growth is due to the recent addition of several international destinations: Avianca's service to Bogotá; American's service to Caracas, Port-au-Prince, and Santo Domingo; and Spirit's service to Cancun.
Acting Aviation Director Tom Jargiello states, "The region is enjoying a very vibrant tourism industry. When you combine that with the airport's low operating costs, state-of-the-art facilities, and an expanding international route structure, you get a formula for success. We anticipate continued growth for the next quarter and remainder of the year."
Air Freight for the 1st Quarter rose 4.4% as 42,756.8 tons were processed at the facility.
Air Carrier operations were up 9.3% for the period with a total of 64,983 flights for the quarter, or 713 take-offs and landings per day.
