FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
HONORED SEVENTH TIME, IN FAA SAFETY INSPECTION

For the seventh year in a row, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport achieved a “zero-discrepancy” in its annual FAA Certification/Safety Inspection of the Airport conducted July 2005. “This is an extraordinary achievement by our dedicated professional staff and to receive a perfect score for the seventh straight year is truly remarkable”, stated Tom Jargiello, Broward County Aviation Director.

The FAA inspection reviews the Airport's compliance with the FAA's airfield safety requirements and is one of the most comprehensive evaluations that an airport faces from the FAA. The inspection is required by the FAA, Southern Region and takes 3 days to complete. This review concentrates on every aspect of airport safety, including runway and taxiway markings, signage, lighting, safety areas, daily inspections, staff training, airside knowledge, wildlife control, FOD (Foreign Object Debris), fueler training, emergency response, incident command and overall record management of Airport Rescue and Fire Fighter training.

Director Jargiello commented, “This achievement places the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as one of the safest airports in the country and stands as a testament to the efforts of our staff professionals in their dedication to providing one of the safest and most customer friendly airports in the nation”.

STEPPED UP PARKING ENFORCEMENT AT
FORT LAUDERDALE–HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Effective June 15, 2005, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will increase their illegal parking enforcement program.

Broward County Aviation Director, Tom Jargiello, asked the Broward Sheriff's Office to increase its efforts to control illegally parked vehicles and to ticket and tow unattended vehicles on the terminal roadway.

In announcing the program, Mr. Jargiello said, “We've had two vehicle accidents this year involving illegally parked vehicles, and I am concerned that there will be more accidents and injuries. We are also concerned about the Airport security issues that are caused by unoccupied, illegally parked vehicles in front of the terminal buildings.”

Enforcement activities focus on ticketing motorists who park illegally on the exit ramp from I-595 to the Airport, and the Return-To-Terminal loop roadway. The ticketing and towing program is aimed at vehicles that are left unattended on the roadway in front of and near the terminals.

Sheriff's officials say that most of the motorists, who park illegally, wait less than 15 minutes for their party to arrive. Motorists are reminded that they can park free for less than 15 minutes in any of the Airport parking facilities. All parking facilities have ADA spaces available for passengers with special needs.

Airfield maintenance work at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will result in closure of Runway 9L-27R (North Runway) starting on Monday, June 20 – Wednesday, June 22, 2005. The closure will allow workers to perform routine maintenance and rubber removal on the main runway (9L-27R).

During the closure period, the airport will use Runway 13-31, and residents living in northeast Dania and southwest Fort Lauderdale may notice an increase in aircraft operations over their communities.

Please note the following:

• Runway 9L-27R (North Runway) will be closed each night from 12:01 a.m. until 6:00 a.m.
• Runway 13-31 (Crosswind Runway) will be used for arrivals and departures between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
