Project Description
: The nearly twelve-acre Young Circle in the heart of downtown Hollywood has been transformed into a regional, interactive ArtsPark where all Broward County residents and visitors may partake in arts and cultural activities day and night. The new cultural facility will offer art classes and other cultural events. The ArtsPark will also host numerous special events and activities such as youth programs, festivals (Hispanic Fest, Mardi Gras Fiesta and Kuumba Festival), concerts, and other performances.

Artist: Dividing her time between Cambridge, MA and Tokyo, Japan, Ritsuko Taho weaves eastern sensitivity to the landscape into her practice of public art.  She is known for creating poetic works that are extremely sensitive to the context of the site as well as the intended audience  and local community.  She has a BFA in Craft and Industrial Design and an MFA in Craft Design from Musashino Art University, Tokyo, Japan, and an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University. Ms. Taho is a professor at the Tokyo National University of Fine arts and Music, and a Research Affiliate Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.  She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1993 and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship in 1987.

Hollywood ArtsparkPast projects include the landscape sculpture and plaza design for the Penta-Ocean Institute of Technology in Nasu, Japan; the landscape sculpture for Kobe Earthquake survivors to use for community gardening in Ashiya, Japan; the Mist Fountain for Gateway Village in Charlotte, NC; and Multicultural Manifestos, a community based lighting and plaza design commissioned by the Cambridge Arts Council for Central Square, Cambridge, MA.

Ritsuko Taho met with the local residents and city representatives on September 29, 2002 at 3:00 PM at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.
