Each Commissioner must be a resident of the particular district for which seat he/she seeks election.

The Mayor
Each year the Commission elects a mayor who will serve as the County's official representative and ceremonial dignitary, provide leadership on issues facing the County and represent the County in negotiations with other governmental entities, executive ordinances, resolutions, proclamations, and other legislative documents.

The Mayor also calls the Board into regular and special session and approves all items prior to placing the item on the County Commission agenda. The Mayor will also implement the provisions of the County's Emergency Management Plan.
In addition, the Commission appoints the County Administrator, County Attorney and Commission Auditor. The Commission also appoints numerous advisory and regulatory boards.

The County Commission meets in formal session the first four Tuesdays each month at 10 a.m. in Room 422 of the Broward County Governmental Center. In addition to various other formal sessions, the Commission meets frequently in workshops. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is providing live coverage of their Commission Meetings every Tuesdays beginning at 10:00 AM over the internet.  Click here to view the webcast.
