 Design Arts Program (DAP)

Purpose/Use:
To assist partnerships of governmental entities in Broward County and/or a not-for-profit organization or organizations (neighborhood association, historical organization, garden clubs, civic organizations, etc.) working in concert in improving or upgrading the aesthetics of the physical environment in Broward County. Examples of projects might involve Main Street, such as the design of signs and their language, banners, special lighting effects; landscape projects - especially those using indigenous trees and plants or xeriscaping to reduce the need for watering - and streetscapes (sidewalk or curbside such as bus shelters. etc.), wateredges or waterscapes (lakes, canals, ponds, etc.), and Main Street.

 

Establishing a vision, or an overall concept, that enhances or develops the existing sense of place for a neighborhood, a municipality, an unincorporated area of the county, or throughout Broward County, or a portion of these categories, from the beaches to the Everglades.          NACO Award Winner logo

 

To assist with the creation of regional, or multi-municipality community pre-design culture plans (with a minimum of three municipalities). Pre-design cultural planning that involves a series of professionally facilitated meetings that results in a written report that assess cultural resources and community needs, and provides policies and actions.

What may be funded: Costs for contracting with a design professional, or teamBlueprint Plans for Plantation Midtown Design (architect, landscape architect or artist), for design services to assist in creating a design program for a street, public space, neighborhood, municipality, or an incorporated area of the county. Costs for contracting for professional pre-design cultural planning services that include, but not limited to, charettes, professionally-led workshops and seminars, which result in the creation of a written multi-municipality community cultural planning document, or community assessment report.

 

Who may apply: An entity which is a not-for-profit organization, municipality, state government agency or political subdivision of state government located primarily in Broward County, or a subdivision of Broward County, in collaboration with one or more Broward-based government entities or not-for-profit organizations. One entity will be the lead applicant, responsible for meeting project and grant requirements.
 

Matching Funds: Not required.

Award Size: Up to $15,000 per project on a funds available basis. Funds awarded under the Design Arts Program may be paid to the grantee on a reimbursement basis only after the grantee provides, to the County, plans, drawings, and other documents acquired with the grant funds.

Funds awarded under the Design Arts Program are for design development only, not implementation or construction.
