Biography

Louis David -SFCC Winner 2007

A visual artist whose work is primarily photograph-based, Louis Davis has been taking photographs for the last 20 years. Beginning in Jamaica in 1982, he worked in film and television production, gaining a symbiotic relationship for his photography. “By 1996 my images began to explore the social themes of nationalism, environment and religion. My work is continuously growing through transition. My new images are slightly surrealistic, rooted in realism - some elements, incongruously placed, might challenge the viewer and their perception,” says David.

Louis Davis holds a post-graduate diploma in mass communications from the University of West Indies, and a diploma in graphic design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He has won awards in national competitions in Jamaica, and prizes from the Broward Art Guild’s competitions, and has exhibited his work in both Jamaica and Florida. He currently resides in Coral Springs, Florida. Louis Davis is the recipient of a $7,500 award from the South Florida Cultural Consortium.
