Biography

 

Ray Azcuy -SFCC Winner 2007

A resident of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Ray Azcuy is a former South Florida Cultural Consortium winner in 2001. A graduate of University of South Florida in Tampa with an MA and a BA, Azcuy has worked at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, in K-12 Art Education, has been an adjunct Professor with the fine arts department of Barry University and a visual arts supervisor, K-12, art education at Pinellas County School System in Largo, Florida.  His extensive portfolio and exhibitions includes solo exhibitions at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Visual Arts coalition in Jacksonville, Florida. His work has also been exhibited in a multitude of locations statewide. His awards have also included - Summer Fellowships from John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

 

“The winning work, Forbidden Garden,” says Azcuy “considers cultural taboo and personal permission, positioning sculptural furniture as metaphor for the erotic. The artwork seduces the viewer with the offer to encounter an unfamiliar place and to risk remembering intense sensory pleasure.”

Ray Azcuy is the recipient of a $15,000 award from the South Florida Cultural Consortium.
