Janet Gold -SFCC Winner 2008
I have been a collector for as long as I can remember.  Rusty objects, prison art, sock monkeys...objects with an innate sense of design, sense of history, and flavor to the material.  Design and decay integrated into a new form.  My collages are an extension of this sensibility.  I have chosen the  medium of collage for its limitless potential and endless possibilities.

I engage in the hunt and search for vintage papers, combing old bookstores, salvage yards, antique shows, and flea markets for my materials.  The works submitted for the Consortium are from a series of works built upon old book covers.  I arrange the images by pushing and pulling, playing and placing the fragments together to create a fluid motion within the piece.  I enjoy the act of continuously solving visual imagery, and work to integrate incongruous images effortlessly and seamlessly.  I intentionally work on an intimate scale enticing the viewer into close proximity so that they are able to see the integration of found objects, fabrics, papers, and stitching.  The works are ultimately presented in matt, black, lacquered, shadowbox frames.
