“Natural Forces: Broward County Public Art & Design ’06-’09,” which opened to the public on September 4, and runs until November 1st, is a compilation of completed public art projects by national and internationally renowned artists who were selected and commissioned to create public art through Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program. ACCH will exhibit drawings, models and other preparatory works done for these commissions, thus revealing important aspects of the creative process. Video documentaries and photographs will highlight how these large-scale artworks interface with the public.

Additionally, the exhibition “Things are good, but can always be better” by Kevin Arrow opens simultaneously with the public art show on Friday, Sept. 4. This exhibition encompasses multiple facets of Arrow’s artistic personality with a selection of paintings, drawings, and projected media merged together in one space in an attempt to set up a dialogue between the object, the space and the viewer. Arrow’s work fuses his interest in obsolete media, archival tendencies, the ephemeral object, spirituality, music and humor. He continually seeks to find the sublime within the mundane, and the mundane within the sublime, as he investigates the interchangeability of both. His work is included in numerous public and private collections and has been featured in such exhibitions as his recent solo show “Burning Bright” at the Farside Gallery in Miami, as well as numerous group exhibitions in South Florida, including Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami and Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.

A site-specific mixed-media installation by Miami artist Juan Maristany also opens in the Center’s Project Room on Friday, Sept. 4. This artwork will be comprised of multi-planar projections of the past and future of existing and non-existing realities.

The opening reception for the three exhibitions takes place at the Center, located at 1650 Harrison St., on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. DJ Le Spam will provide music for this event. Gallery hours are from Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. Admission to the reception is free for ACCH members and $10 for non-members.
