Night Crossroads

Textile - Tapestry

120in X 50in

1980

South Regional Courthouse

Description:
Although he began his career as a potter, Uyemura has devoted more and more of his time to weaving and tapestry making. In this abstract geometric textile work, he had fused design elements from the Middle-eastern, Indian and American Native cultures into a cohesive unit. This remarkable tapestry is installed on a stairwell leading to the second floor at the South Regional Courthouse.

Artist Statement:
"Every now and again, after struggling with one's ideas and problems, one is confronted with a finished piece which opens up new areas of thought and foretells of emerging forms and images yet unrealized. This is what artists live for."
