Artist Statement:
" Four steel-reinforced fiberglass "Light Cylinders", suspended 8 feet above finish grade and measuring 34' diameter x 81' 6"high, pass through all floors of the garage. The Cylinders rise 7 ft. above the garage roof and are capped by tensile structures of architectural fabric reaching an overall height of 96' 6" above the ground.

By day the Cylinders are illuminated by sun and lighting, at night they become glowing lanterns. Apertures allow viewing at each level and are aligned to a formal concept reflecting the geometry of the garage building. To achieve greater airflow the cylinders are elevated 8' above ground plane with slotted view openings above each floor. All Cylinders contain primary pedestrian access via escalators to lobby levels one and three, and from level two direct access to the airport terminal via a pedestrian bridge. Access to escalators is adjacent to elevator doors, providing the user with either mode of vertical circulation.

The colors of the Light Cylinders are borrowed from the Florida landscape of water, light, vegetation and sea-shell. While providing clues to destination and location within the garage, they greet the traveler with an introduction to the coloration of the environment beyond.

The roof design functions as both oculus and transmitter of light. By day the fabric structures allow sunlight to illuminate the Cylinders. At night, the Cylinders exterior lighting causes the individual colors to reflect upon the translucent fabric transforming them into color lanterns above the garage. The Cylinders are solar/lunar lanterns which the traveler enters or peers into. The experience of movement within the Cylinder allows the traveler a moment of calm transition as they become part of the interior spectacle of light."
