Description

This integrated sculptural environment is comprised of two structures at the Arrival Level and one structure at the Departure Level of Terminal 1. Stone and Glass Gardens, as a transformed space for respite, are made of rows of interior plants in stepped structure of oolithic limestone indigenous to South Florida. The tempered glass panels covering the top of the stone surface, referring to the calm water surface of the nearby Everglades, provide a rich visual balance to the complex textural environment. In addition, a painted aluminum boat frame is guarding the respite on the Departure level.

Artist Statement
"Rows of plants in stepped platforms clad in Florida fossil limestone, with 3/4" tempered clear glass on their horizontal surfaces, establish a metaphor for the Everglades. An aluminum boat frame sculpture sits above the upper level garden, overlooking a stair and escalator."
