Description

Millennium Springs, created by renowned Japanese artist Ritsuko Taho, is the focal point of the eagerly awaited ArtsPark at Young Circle in downtown Hollywood and was dedicated in March 2007. Originally conceived as part of Broward County's Community Cultural Plan 2010 in response to a community-identified need for hands-on facilities for arts and culture, the ArtsPark was seeded with $5 million in park bond funding from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in 2002. The 10-acre park is located at Hollywood Boulevard and U.S. 1. The focal point of the ArtsPark is a spectacular fountain designed by Taho in collaboration with project designer Margi Glavovic Nothard and architect Marvin Scharf. Taho's design concept, Millennium Springs, consists of three components: A water sculpture within the fountain along with sound art and an ornamental ceremonial rope encircling a large Baobab tree in the park; a dream wave pattern sculpture, which is incorporated into the park's walkway design.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -Broward County Commission's Cultural Division invites the Broward community to a dedication ceremony for The ArtsPark at Young Circle in Hollywood on March 16, 5-10 p.m. Internationally-known artist Ritsuko Taho's artwork Millennium Springs has transformed the Young Circle park into a regional, interactive ArtsPark where Broward County residents and visitors can partake in arts and cultural activities in the day and night. Young Circle ArtsPark, a 10-acre park in the heart of Downtown Hollywood, is located at Hollywood Boulevard and US-1.

The focus of the ArtsPark at Young Circle is a spectacular feature fountain designed by Taho in collaboration with project architect Margi Glavovic Nothard. Dividing her time between Cambridge, Mass. and Tokyo, Japan, she is known for creating poetic works that are highly sensitive to the context of the site, as well as to the intended audience and local community. Past projects include the landscape sculpture and plaza design for the Penta-Ocean Institute of Technology in Nasu, Japan; the landscape sculpture for Kobe Earthquake survivors to use for community gardening in Ashiya, Japan; the Mist Fountain for Gateway Village in Charlotte, N.C. and Multicultural Manifestos, a community-based lighting and plaza design commissioned by the Cambridge Arts Council for Central Square, Cambridge, Mass. She has recently completed a monumentally-scaled earthwork sculpture for the prestigious Echigo-Tsumari Triennale in Japan.
