H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)
Broward County Transit (BCT) is reminding our employees, passengers and those who use other means of public transportation to do what they can to stay healthy in light of the recent H1N1 flu outbreak.
Symptoms of this flu strain include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue. By following simple precautions, such as those listed below and recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you can help to reduce transmission of the virus and the severity of the illness, protect yourselves and others, and alleviate the challenges this new flu outbreak has posed to public health care providers and governmental agencies.
• Take everyday actions to stay healthy...- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- If presented with “flu-like” symptoms, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
Currently in Broward County and the State of Florida, there are no protective action recommendations other than the personal hygiene actions listed above. County Department of Health offices throughout the State are the lead on public information and planning. As soon as new information is available, we will pass it along to our employees and to our customers.
Stay informed... Call the Florida Department of Health Swine Flu Information Line, available in English and Spanish, at 1-800-775-8039. Or, call 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).

Broward County Transit Plans Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) of Overall Bus Services
On February 28, 2009, Broward County Transit (BCT) will begin a Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA). This system-wide effort will take a route level analysis of our bus operations in order to improve current service and to plan for future transit service needs in Broward County.
The first step in this process is a survey of our riders. Surveys will be distributed on all BCT local routes and community buses during all times of the day throughout the month of March and into early April. The surveys will be available in English, Spanish and Creole. We encourage our riders to participate in the survey effort, which can be completed while riding the bus.
