Broward County Commission to Hold Public Hearing On Proposed Changes to Bus Routes
- Includes new, Limited-Stop Service on University Drive -

The Broward County Commission will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the Broward County Governmental Center, Room 422, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, to receive public comments on proposed changes to Broward County Transit (BCT) routes.

The proposed service changes, effective Sunday, September 21, 2008, are on routes 2, 4, 5, 7, 16 and 28. There is also a proposed, new “University Breeze” route.

Following is a brief description of the proposed service changes:

Route 2:
This route currently provides north/south service along University Drive from Westview Drive in Coral Springs to the Golden Glades Park and Ride lot in Miami-Dade County. Service will no longer be provided to Golden Glades, and will terminate at University Drive and Northwest 207 Street in Miami-Dade County. The portion of the route between Northwest 207 Street and Golden Glades will be serviced by the new, proposed “University Breeze” route. Service frequency will be improved during weekday and Saturday evening hours from 45 to every 30 minutes. Late night service after 9 p.m. will be adjusted from 45 to every 60 minutes.

Route 4:
The route will no longer travel south to the Aventura Mall in Miami-Dade County along A1A south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard, and will terminate at Northeast 14 Avenue and Hallandale Beach Boulevard. The proposed changes to route 28 will pick up the service area along A1A, south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard to the Aventura Mall with improved service frequency. Service frequency on weekdays and Saturdays will be adjusted from 40 to every 45 minutes, and Sundays from 50 to every 45 minutes.

Route 5:
Weekday morning and afternoon peak hour service will be improved from 60 to every 30 minutes between the Pembroke Lakes Mall and US 1/Federal Highway. The route will be extended south along US 1 to the Hallandale Beach City Hall, and service along Northeast 14 Avenue will be provided by the proposed new route 4.

Route 7:
Sunday service hours will be improved to start from 8:40 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. instead of from 9:35 a.m. to 7:05 p.m. All other frequency service hours will remain the same.

Route 16:
Service will be extended along Flamingo Road to the Pembroke Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines for connections to routes 3, 5, 7 and 23. Service frequency will remain the same.

Route 28:
The route will be extended east on Hallandale Beach Boulevard to A1A, and continue south to the Aventura Mall, servicing the portion of the route currently provided by route 4. Sunday service hours will be improved to start from 9 a.m. to 8:35 p.m. instead of from 9:30 a.m. to 7:05 p.m. All other frequency service hours will remain the same.

“University Breeze”:
The new, limited-stop service will travel along University Drive from Westview Drive in Coral Springs to Northwest 183 Street in North Miami-Dade County, continuing to State Road 441, then south to the Golden Glades Park and Ride lot, making stops at major street intersections only. Service frequency will be every 30 minutes on weekdays during morning and afternoon peak hours. There will be no service during the midday and on weekends.
