Change of Provider for Group Legal Insurance effective 07/01/08
The current contract with ARAG Legal Insurance expired on June 30, 2008. In anticipation of this event, the County placed this contract out for competitive bid. U.S. Legal Services, Inc. was selected as the County's new prepaid legal provider and replaced ARAG effective July 1, 2008. U.S. Legal Services is a Florida based corporation that has been providing affordable access to attorneys since the early 1970s. U.S. Legal Services has created a unique plan to cater to the specific needs of Broward County Government employees, the “Family Protector Plan.” This will be the only plan offered at a fee of $8.65 per pay period, regardless of the number of benefit eligible dependents you have. Except where stated, there are no hour limits on legal services provided. The group legal plan includes:

Unlimited Telephone and Office Consultations

Family Law

Preparation of Wills and Trusts

Bankruptcy

Consumer Warranty Matters

Lawsuits

Real Estate Transactions

Misdemeanor Criminal Law

Traffic Violations/Accident Matters

All current legal plan members enrolled with ARAG will “automatically be enrolled in U.S. Legal's “Family Protector Plan” so that there is no lapse in coverage. All current legal plan members will have a 31 day period to review and compare benefits of the program. If for any reason you do not wish to be enrolled, you need only send a request for cancellation to Employee Benefit Services before August 1, 2008. Any payroll deductions taken in July will be fully refunded, provided you have not used the plan's services during the review period. You may cancel at any time after August 1, 2008, but no refund will be provided.

Each currently enrolled legal plan member will receive a personalized information kit from U.S. Legal Services Inc., as well as an ID card. The kit will include a summary plan document detailing the benefits available under the plan as well as a tri-county listing of participating network attorneys. The plan also offers an out of network benefit, if you choose to use your own attorney.

U.S. Legal Service Inc. has also customized a portal to their web site, which Broward County employees may use to search for participating attorneys as well as review plan benefits. Access to this web site at www.uslprotects.com and go to the Member Resource Center . Click on Broward County Government to access our plan.

Group Legal is not a “pre-tax” program; therefore, you may enroll and/or terminate coverage at any time. The plan does not require you to be enrolled for any set period of time and there is no waiting period for services.
