2009 Application Cycle

Grant Application Deadline:
This round of the Parks For People grant cycle had as a deadline Friday, July 31, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. It is now closed.

Program Details:
The Natural Resources Planning and Management Division of the Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department, has initiated the Land Stewardship Program, a five-year capital improvement program to supplement the development of Bond acquired Green Space and Open Space sites that will propose "green component" standards. These "green component" standards are typically features above and beyond the approved master plan, such as native plantings, recycled materials for playgrounds, low flow water fixtures and irrigation methods and solar applications for lighting and/or hot water. This program is entitled the "Parks for People" Grant Program, and it will provide $1,000,000 each year during the five year cycle, with a maximum reimbursable grant of $75,000 per funded project.

Qualified Applicants:
Municipalities that own Green Space and Open Space sites acquired through the 2000 Bond Program with development funding already allocated in the municipality's 5 year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) interested in incorporating "green component" standards as described in this program.

Project Match Requirement:
Project match is generally the amount allocated in the five year Capital Improvement Plan for the project site, equivalent to the applications requested funding amount.

Funding Requirement:
Except as provided in this section, funds from this grant may only be applied to the actual costs incurred in "green components" used in site development. The grant funding may not be used to cover costs associated with the preparation, submission or presentation of the grant application.

Application Receipt Deadline:
The 5-page application, any required attachments, including a minimum of three (3) digital photographs of the project site before initiating work related to grant funding, should be received in our office prior to the deadline. Late applications will not be considered for funding. Staff encourages electronic submission to save resources and paper. If you choose to send your application by mail, please submit in a letter sized manila folder, all attachments labeled and photographs on CDR. No plastic binders, please.

Draft Proposals Review Period:
Draft proposals can be reviewed during the first month of the application period for each cycle. Please contact us to schedule your review.
