Division Services

The Building Code Services Division is responsible for conformance to the Florida Building Code for all new construction in the unincorporated areas of Broward County and in those municipalities that have an Interlocal Agreement for services with Broward County. If you are in a city jurisdiction, you will have to call that city's building department.

The Building Code Services Division is committed to:

Protecting the public safety, health and welfare by ensuring that all construction in the unincorporated areas of Broward County and those cities in Broward County under contract for the Building Code Services Division conform with all applicable ordinances, building codes, laws, rules, resolutions and regulations in effect in Broward County, Florida;

Administering and enforcing the Florida Building Code and Minimum Housing/Unsafe Structure regulations and such other County ordinances relating to permitting that affect land, property structures and the environment in the unincorporated areas of Broward County and those cities in Broward County under contract for the Building Code Services Division;

Enforcing the Florida Building Code by performing plan review, inspections and issuing permits and Certificates of Occupancy for construction projects;

Providing building department services (Building Official, plan review, unlicensed activity enforcement, code enforcement, minimum housing and unsafe structures) on a cost- reimbursable basis to those incorporated municipalities in the County who have contractual agreements with Broward County;

Providing administrative support to the Broward County Central Examining Boards (Building Construction Trades, Electrical Trades, Engineered Construction Trades, Plumbing Trades, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Trades and Mechanical Construction Trades), the Unsafe Structures Board, Code Enforcement Board, and any other related advisory and regulatory boards;

Establishing and collecting such fees as may be prescribed by the County Commission for providing division services and related functions to the public. It shall be the policy of Broward County that the fees shall be so designed as to bear reasonable relationship to the cost of providing Community Code Compliance;

Performing inspections of buildings for proposed businesses to assure compatibility with the intended use as required by the Florida Building Code and as a prerequisite to obtaining an occupational license. All Building Code Inspectors and Plan Reviewers assigned to these programs are certified as inspectors by the Board of Rules and Appeals and the State Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board of the Department of Busienss and Professional Regulation.
