The Children’s Services Board is committed to the need for collaboration to improve the lives of children and their families in Broward County.

This ordinance re-established the Children’s Services Board effective February 11, 2003 in the role of an advisory board to review proposals and make annual funding recommendations. The Board consists of ten (10) Commission appointees including one appointee from each of the nine commissioners and one consumer appointed by the entire Board of Commissioners and five (5) designated appointees by virtue of their position or professional capacity that include:

• The Superintendent of Schools, or designee,
• A representative from the Department of Children and Families,
• A representative from the Department of Juvenile Justice,
• A designee of the Children’s Consortium of Broward County, and
• One County Commissioner.

The charge of the Board is to improve the life of the children of Broward County and to:

1. focus on planning and coordination of services
2. serve as a principle source of knowledge for the special needs of children
3. serve as an advocate for children’s services, and
4. function as an independent entity providing annual evaluation and funding recommendations on children’s services.
