Committee Members
A number of standing committees serve the Board of Rules and Appeals, providing a broad spectrum of specialized knowledge in a variety of technical areas.
These committees vary in size and makeup, but have in common the fact that technical members are all recognized by peers as authorities in their respective fields.
All committees are chaired by Board members from the appropriate specialty who, along with the committee membership, are appointed by the Board Chairman (year 2007Chairman is Phil London).
As far as possible, the committee chairmen are named from among the non-voting alternate members of the Board of Rules and Appeals. This serves two purposes; first, it helps keep the alternate members actively involved, so that they will be fully familiar with items under consideration before the Board if they are seated in place of absent members, and second, it helps keep the level of professional representation on the Board as high as it was before the referendum reduced its size.

The probable cause committee has been created to examine allegations against building inspectors and officials, to determine whether a disciplinary hearing before the Board is justified.

Subcommittees and special committees are formed as needed to address specific problems, often highly technical in nature.
