The Consumer Protection Section

The Consumer Protection Section is responsible for enforcing the Broward County Consumer Protection Code and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal legislation to protect the public from unfair and deceptive trade practices. The Section responsibilities include:

  • Investigates consumer complaints and, if necessary, takes appropriate legal action
  • Resolve complaints through mediation
  • Serves as a clearinghouse for consumer complaint information
  • Conducts consumer education programs by providing speakers to community groups, business organizations and schools

Filing A Complaint

If you believe you have been a victim of an unfair and/or deceptive trade practice in Broward County, Florida, call the Broward County Consumer Affairs Division at (954) 357-5350 or contact us at consumer@broward.org. A staff member will take the your information and mail you a complaint form. However, you can also click here, complaint form, and download a copy of the complaint form.

When filing a complaint, please explain your problem simply and concisely. Be sure to enclose copies of all documents related to the complaint including but not limited to receipts, contract(s), proof of payment, advertisements, and correspondences. Remember, send only copies!

Checking Out a Business and Complaint Information

You may receive complaint information on Broward County businesses by visiting the offices of the Broward County Consumer Affairs Division. However, it is recommended that you call at least one day in advance to determine whether any information exists and to provide the staff an opportunity to prepare the information. The Consumer Affairs Division also licenses auto repair facilities, taxicab and limousine companies, title loan lenders, Kosher Food businesses, and local household movers.
