Definitions of Types of For-Hire Vehicles Requiring a Broward County Permit

Taxicab - means a motor vehicle designed to accommodate not more than eight (8) passengers exclusion of the driver and the rates are indicated by a taximeter.

Limousine - means any chauffeur driven vehicle that is engaged for the exclusive use of the passenger, not equipped with a taximeter, which provides for seating accommodations for not more than nineteen (19) passengers, exclusive of the driver. The following are the classifications of limousines regulated by Broward County:

Luxury Sedan- means a motor vehicle with a passenger capacity of one to eight (1-8) passengers, which has not been altered from the original manufacturer's specifications with respect to seating capacity or wheelbase, and does not contain a partition to separate the driver and passenger, and is recognized by the industry as "luxury"

Luxury Limousine - means a motor vehicle not equipped with a taximeter, with a seating capacity of 6-19 passengers, excluding the driver, which has been altered from its original manufacturer's specifications with respect to wheelbase and passenger capacity, and contains a partition or other device used to separate the driver and passenger seating areas.

Transport Van - means a motor vehicle not equipped with a taximeter, with a seating capacity of nine (9) or more passengers, but not more than nineteen (19), exclusive of the driver, where there is no separation of the driver and passenger compartment.
