REGULATORY INFORMATION

Broward County Regulates Taxis and Limousines
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has authorized the Broward County Consumer Affairs Division to regulate and enforce county ordinances governing the taxicab and limousine industry. There are a limited number of Taxicabs and Luxury Sedans that operate in Broward County. All regulated "for-hire" vehicles are permitted by the County and must be operated pursuant to the regulations as defined in Chapter 22 ½ of the Broward County Code.
All operators of Taxicabs and Luxury Sedans must hold a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for each taxi and luxury sedan they operate. All for-hire vehicles, Taxicabs, Luxury Sedans, Luxury Limousines, and Transport Vans (vehicles holding up to 19 passengers), must be permitted. Limousines serving the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport must also hold a special permit for the airport.
The number Taxicabs and Luxury Sedans is based on population and new Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity with an accompanying permit are issued by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners by way of a lottery.
