2007 Taxi/Luxury Sedan Certificate Lottery

The 2007 Taxi / Luxury Sedan Certificate Lottery drawing will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 2pm in the Broward County Commission Chamber, Governmental Center, Room 422.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has authorized 7 new taxicab certificates and 3 new luxury sedan certificates to be awarded by a lottery drawing.

An application fee of $400 is required to enter the taxicab and/or luxury sedan.  If you win a permit, there is a one time new permit fee of $1,000 which must be paid within 60 days from the date of the lottery drawing.

APPLICATION PERIOD

Applications will be accepted from February 4, 2008, to February 29, 2008, 4:00 p.m., at the offices of the Consumer Affairs Division, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room A460, Fort Lauderdale, FL

The new certificates will be issued in the following categories:

TAXICAB CERTIFICATES

3 Taxicab Driver Only Category (must be an active Broward County taxicab driver for at least 36 consecutive months prior to the date of application).

You must submit documentation from companies attesting to the fact that you have been driving for 36 consecutive months. Taxi driver certificates may not be sold for a period of six (6) years from the date of issuance.

2 General Taxicab Category (open to the public)
Taxicab certificates may not be sold for a period of three (3) years from the date of issuance.

1 Wheelchair Accessible Taxicab Category which comes with 1 general taxicab certificate (open to the public). Taxicab certificates may not be sold for a period of three (3) years from the date of issuance.

LUXURY SEDAN CERTIFICATES

3 Luxury Sedan Certificates (open to the public). Luxury sedan certificates may not be sold or leased for a period of three (3) years from the date of issuance, and you must present for inspection a qualified luxury vehicle that you own or lease, and intend to operate.
