Trade Statistics
Canada was Florida's 3rd export market and South Florida's 33rd largest trading partner in 2008. Florida's top exports to Canada include fresh orange juice, phosphate-based fertilizers, and parts for electric motors and aircraft. Florida's top imports from Canada include petroleum oil preparations, high value-added products such as engines and various aircraft, and packaged pharmaceuticals. There are nearly 30 Canadian companies operating in Broward County, employing over 1100 people.

Canada Trade Mission July 2004

The Canada mission with Montreal International was designed to work towards an agreement with Broward County and McGill University to create a synergy for growing biotechnology within the County. A very important economic development goal for Broward County is bioscience.

Mayor Ilene Lieberman met with the U.S. Consul in Montreal; U.S. Ambassador for Canada; economic development and tourism ministries; high-tech companies ranging from information technology and biotechnology to photonics.

Canada, Florida's #2 trading partner, has a thriving economy that is closely integrated with that of the United States. Canadian business organizations provide excellent exposure to new potential prospects for Broward County. A meeting was scheduled with the Secretary of International Trade for Canada and County's economic development agency.
