Colombia was South Florida's 3rd largest trading partner and Florida's 5th largest trading partner in 2008. Top exports from South Florida to Colombia include computers and computer parts, landline and cellular phone equipment, parts for heavy machinery, aircraft parts, and electronics (TVs, printers, camcorders, digital cameras), construction machinery, and medical instruments. Top South Florida imports from Colombia include flowers, gold, textiles, coffee, scraps of precious metals, and textiles. There are currently 3 Colombian companies located in Broward County employing approximately 10 people.

Colombia Trade Mission 2009

On April 20 - 25, 2009 Broward County participated in the Miami Chamber of Commerce's Trade Mission to Colombia, coordinated in part by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.  The purpose of the mission was to promote economic development opportunities in South Florida with international businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to expand business operations, make direct investments, and establish trade relations benefiting local businesses and residents. The mission was comprised of companies from many different industries from Miami-Dade and Broward counties, leaders from the Miami Chamber of Commerce as well as the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, government representatives from Broward County and the City of El Portal and Mayor Don Slesnick from the City of Coral Gables.
