Stay Cool, Stay Hydrated

Stay hydrated
July is one of the busiest months and the pinnacle of summer with July Fourth celebrations, beach fun and of course barbeques! With so many things happening, it’s important to keep hydrated at all times to avoid dehydration and heat-related illnesses. The best time to consume liquids is before you are thirsty and your body has already dehydrated. The best drink is water, which can be enhanced by adding fresh lemon slices and mint for a refreshing change. Try to avoid or limit caffeine and alcohol consumption.

This month, several events and seminars have been scheduled throughout the County, including complimentary chair massages at Port Everglades, Transit Copans and at Governmental Center to massage away stress and tension. To schedule a chair massage, email Wellness Coordinator Lisa Wright. For a complete list of scheduled events throughout the County, see your Wellness Calendar.

Third Quarter Biggest Winner Buddy Challenge Commences in July

The Third Quarter Biggest Winner Challenge will commence this month with a unique feature: A buddy system! One of the most important elements in achieving a healthier lifestyle and losing weight is through a strong support system, and what better way to do it than having a buddy? Buddies do not have to work at the same location, but must sign up as a team and identify one location as their primary location. The winning Buddy Team from each participating location will win gift baskets with various wellness, nutrition and fitness-related goodies and a healthy gourmet lunch. For more information, contact Wellness Coordinator Lisa Wright at lwright25@humana.com.
